Many people know that maps for portable GPS navigators can be vector and raster, but not everyone can explain how they differ.
A vector map can be observed only in navigator or computer screen. Actually it is just object list of terrain with coordinates. For example, a bus stop is a point with coordinates and an icon with bus, road is a line with coordinates of every it’s bend, wood is a list of coordinates of the line contouring a large forest called polygon.
This map looks angularly enough, but it is possible to change its scale in very wide limits. Big cities and main highways are shown only in a small scale, quarters, streets with titles and houses with numbers appear at scale increasing.

My first portable GPS navigator was heavy, strong and very reliable Magellan GPS 4000XL.
300 gramms of the brick in military style with an amorphous substance instead of glass, on which furrows with millimetric depth grew in 24hours, seemed then a fantasy.
Nobody of my touristic friends had such a miracle, and many of them hardly heard about it.Two-channel receiver released in 1998 terribly lost satellites in wet forest and shallow canyons, but the most part of time it showed exact coordinates and specified directions and distances to any of 200 points stored in its memory.
And it was quite enough to use it. Since then I never wandered in a fog and didn't suffer in doubts at every crossroad of the trip.

Widescreen Portable navigator. I bought this device ten days ago and I am satisfied with it indeed. The navigator is excellent, I like its mainstream feature and innovative navigation. Now I bought a new navigator, as the previous one has been stolen from my car, it was also portable GPS navigator Garmin nuvi 1350T which I really loved.
Then I bought "Magellan", but it did not satisfy me, and I decided to buy Garmin nuvi 1350. This time the price really surprised me, I got it only for $247 – Amazon.
I preferred it to 1390T as I do not need Bluetooth, which is the only difference between them. I was afraid that the quality of Bluetooth would not suit me, as I know it to be quite poor in general on this devices. The way most people use Bluetooth was the main reason.
Usually I get out in my car and that’s why I always need my Bluetooth to make calls. But I do not need navigator all the time.
